Athleisure – Styling Moto Leggings

I’m all about looking put together, but also being comfy, so I love to rock the athleisure trend with a cute pair of joggers and sneakers, or in this case leggings. Before I get started, I want to address that there are a couple of ways to ruin the athleisure look. One is wearing work out gear from head to toe with no actual intention of working out. You have to chop it up with some pieces that are not what you would wear during a workout session. The second way is dressing in the latest 15 year old girl fashion, running shorts and your dad’s oversized tee, that may be on trend for the tweens but not us old ladies, aka mom’s. 😉

Examples of how not to dress athleisure:

Athleisure

As you can see, on the left I look like I’m about to start a crazy HIIT workout with hot pink lips and mirrored aviators because that’s what you do right?! ;P Now on the right you have to admit you could mistake me for a teenage girl, or I suppose a mom that just fell outta bed, and though I’m all about looking young (aren’t we all), I don’t want to be mistaken for a teenager with my three kids.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, I want to talk more about these super cute moto leggings. They were in the sale of the year, you know the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, duh. I definitely overlooked them the first time around. I thought they were cute BUT when would I wear them?!?! I mean, they are workout pants and I’m not one to get fancy with what I’m about to sweat my butt off in, then I took a second look and realized they are a great alternative to the basic black leggings without going too crazy with the faux leather leggings. Faux leather leggings are super cute but I just can’t bring myself to rock them.

So like I mentioned, I’m just wearing them the way I would with a pair of basic black leggings. I don’t think they would be a good pant for thigh or over the knee boots, but you could definitely wear some cute booties with them. For this post I’m sticking to the comfy styles.

The first look is rocking the leggings with stripes and a cardigan. The striped top and cardigan are both longer so they cover the bum and who-ha, which can be very important when wearing leggings. I paired the look with of course, a comfy pair of sneakers.

I took a risk with the shorter white tee in this look, but an awesome thing about these moto leggings are they are a thicker material so you don’t have to worry about the shear affect happening on the bum. Just don’t go too crazy and hike them up because no one wants the dreaded camel toe. No bueno. Another great trend this Fall is both utility jackets and vest. I went with a vest in this look because it’s still super hot here in Southern Georgia.

Last, I couldn’t complete this post with out showing you a basic car pool mom look!!! Just a cute graphic tee with a fun saying to rock while getting the kiddos off to school! This cute top is from Tread Tank. They sell the comfiest basic tees with an endless amount of cute graphics and saying.

Styling Shortalls

Bringing back the overalls mom style! I would normally call these denim overall shorts but they have a new name shortalls. Maybe that’s just what we are calling the adult version not to confuse them with the ones we all wore as children. The same problems still arise wearing them however, like trying not to get the long shoulder buckle from falling in the toilet while unhooking to use the bathroom. Having the buckle either not stay hooked or the total opposite and can’t get it to unhook when you do need to take them off. They are great for not showing off your butt crack when bending over but also you are likely to stand up from the bend over with a major wedge.

Don’t let any of these things discourage you from rocking some overalls as an adult.

Here are some ways I’ve worn them

This one is called the tomboy, it’s a great way to reminisce your childhood years of looking cute while playing baseball with the neighborhood boys. 🙂

The next look is the farmer mom. I feel like I should be picking strawberries with the kiddos while rocking this look… of course that requires a lot of bending over so use the kids as cover while picking all those wedges.

This is the layered look, I would wear this look when I know I’m going to be hanging out in the air conditioning most of the day but ready for the summer heat with the sleeveless tee underneath.

I wanted to come up with a more dressy way to wear overalls but I couldn’t they are overalls for crying out loud! When they aren’t on trend the only people that continue to wear them are hillbillies, farmers and children so with that it’s obvious they aren’t meant to be worn during a more classy situation. Hey! But if you can come up with a fancy way to rock some shortalls let me know in the comments! I’m all for giving it a go!

The Momiform – Distressed Jeans and T-Shirt

This jeans are true to size

A t-shirt and jeans! On an everyday basis, I live in comfy, worn in jeans, that I only wash if I get something crusted on them. Yes, that sounds gross but it’s the truth. It could be anything; food; baby spit up; children’s boogers; who knows?!? But when they reach that point, that is when they go into the wash. I have a love hate relationship with just washed jeans. I love the fresh and clean smell of just-washed jeans, and if I’m lucky I can put them on right out of the dryer. Ha! Ok, that almost never happens so let me clarify: The dryer has just stopped for the third time after I restarted it to keep the wrinkles out, so I get to put on jeans that are warm. 🙂

I hate them because they are a bit tight on the waist making me feel a bit blah with this postpartum bod, but at the same time, I kind of like them tight. It is weird I know.

These are my all-time favorites right now!

Size up with these jeans! I normally wear a 4 and these are a 6

Now tees, I am a big fan of a cute graphic tee with an awesome saying or quote. However, when I just want something super simple I have discovered these shirts from Abercrombie (I wear a size small). I recommend buying them when they are on sale, I have been able to purchase these t-shirts when they are only $10. The white shirt is not, I repeat NOT, see through! It looks great so I am a big fan! It has a boxy appearance when you lay it flat, but when it’s on, it drapes perfectly. One thing I am not sure of is its length. It is a good length for me but I am only 5’3 on a good day, so it may be short for a person with a longer torso. I am also a fan of the tees from Target (I wear a size medium).

Here are some shops that have super soft comfy graphic tees that I enjoy as well!

Styling Olive Pants

I’ll be the first to admit I’m bad at mix and matching my clothes. I buy a certain top to go with a certain pair of pants, skirt, or shorts. You know what happens to a blogger who always needs something new to post when I don’t mix and match? Let’s just say the bank account takes a pretty big hit.

So I’m going to change that and force myself to mix and match, my bank account and husband will be thankful. 😉

I recently bought these cute olive colored pants and of course the first thing I think to pair them with is a stripe shirt because well it’s me! I actually bought both this tee and pants in the same order. This tee is super cute and lightweight without being see through. One thing I do recommend with a lower v-neck you should wear a bralette underneath. That way when your baby pulls at your shirt or you are bending over to pick up a kid, toy, laundry (you get the idea) you aren’t showing off the ladies. Instead you are showing off a fashionable barlette. I recommend one like this.

The next look I added a camo shirt but didn’t want it to be too edgy or matchy matchy with all the green so I broke it up with a feminine pink cardigan.

Another way, and probably my favorite and will be the most worn way, was pairing it with a plain graphic tee and this bright red tennis shoes! I love the way it all looks together.

Adding a classic button up Gingham top makes you look a little more done up even when you are rocking the converse too!

Last but not least, dressing up the pants with a little leopard print heel would be perfect for a date night! If only I got a date night every once in a while! 🙁

Well there you have it! A few looks I was able to put together with olive pants!

I hope you like the post and find inspiration. I know it gives me inspiration and ideas when I put together a blog post like this one, so I will continue to make more mix and match posts!
