Back to school shopping

Today is the last day Old Navy is having a 40% off everything online sale, so I wanted to let you know some of the cute stuff I snagged for the girls. They started school almost a month ago now, but since they start school when summer was still in full effect I didn’t invest in back to school clothes at the time. I just got them a new pair of sneakers for PE and let them pick out one new outfit for that first day. Then they continue to wear their shorts and tank tops from their summer wardrobe.

We finally got some cooler weather this week and so I figured it was time to go through drawers and see what they need. Emily doesn’t usually need much thanks to big sisters hand me downs, however styles change and the older they get the more clothes get destroyed before making it to the second kid, especially shoes. Adalynn of course needs all the things.

Now that you know the scoop here’s what I picked out for each girl during the sale.

Emily is still in toddler sizes at a 5T, here are my picks. Every year I get her easy pull on booties, so she has no problem getting them on herself in the mornings. Leggings several pairs of leggings are a must, she isn’t a fan of jeans so the only pants I can get her to wear are leggings. I also like a good neutral cardigan for layering anything she chooses to wear. She loves to wear dresses. I picked a couple of neutral ones to wear with some fun print leggings. After going through Adalynn’s old clothes I saw Emily didn’t need many long sleeve tops but this mustard colored top was just too cute to pass up.

Now on to Adalynn, she shops in the girls department now. They have cute mini me clothes so it’s hard for me to not just buy her clothes that are totally my style. I have to remember to reflect her style in her clothes. She is actually the easiest to shop for because she isn’t picky, so that is another reason its easy for me to start picking only clothes that are my style. I didn’t end up getting her any boots because most of them had heels and she’s 7 I didn’t think that was appropriate. My favorite items have to be the joggers and the football tee because those two things I would totally rock myself. I got her a cute dress and fun graphic tee as well. She doesn’t run cold like her sister so a perfect layering piece for her is this super cute denim vest. Last but not least a couple new pair of jeans are a must! How cute are the raw hem jeans?

If you are not able to shop the sale today I’m pretty sure they will have another amazing maybe even better sale this Labor day weekend.

How I’m keeping the kids busy this summer.

I’m going to start off by saying I am NOT one of those total hands on mom’s. I don’t plans craft days and picnics at the park days, or have the week planned out with all kinds of fun activities. It sounds so nice to be one of those mom’s. I always have good intentions but then the days come and go and I’m just trying not to scream at my girls after they consistently fight with each other or having my patiences tested while they ask me to do things and get things for them all day long! Good grief! Baby Max is pretty easy going for now mostly sleeping through the day and not wanting much from me except food and the occasional diaper change.

I mostly just tell my kids to find something to entertain themselves. With that I’ve found some things that have kept them entertained so far this summer without having too many hours of the dreaded “screen time” (that last part was totally sarcastic).

An inflatable pool in the backyard. Yes! It’ll be one of the best forty bucks you spend this summer. The girls love spending hours beating the heat in ours, lil’ Max even enjoys it for 15 minutes or so when he’s not sleeping or eating. It also allows us to avoids the public neighborhood pool most days. Which I love because it’s such a task to get all the kids to the pool and finding a shady spot for the baby and keeping him happy for more then 45 minutes.

Next workbooks. I purchased a getting ready for kindergarten book for Emily and a 2nd grade one for Adalynn. It’s been a great way to keep them on track for the up coming school year and keeps them happy and quiet while they work on them. It requires a bit more effort on my part with Emily because she needs to know the directions on different pages but Adalynn is able to do it all on her own.

Dig it up, these are rocks that have gems or fossils in them and the kids have to chisel and dig to get to the prize. It’s the greatest, it kept my girls outside chiseling away for hours!!! It’s a great outdoor activity as it’s a bit messy.

Chores!! You heard me! I made a chore chart inspired by Pinterest and got my kids to start helping me around the house!! I mainly wanted Adalynn my oldest to really start earning her keep as she is now seven, but I couldn’t leave out little sis because she would want to have chores too and why shouldn’t she?! It’s been great! I had to lower my standards on what I think is clean because, well, a four and seven year old are doing the cleaning. BUT not having to empty the dishwasher has been A-mazing! Also it’s been nice for me to not be the one cleaning up their toothpaste all over the sink and bathroom counter.

I feel like it’s hard sometimes as a parent to grow with your kids. You are so use to them being dependent on you that as they get older you just continue to do things for them, when really they can totally do things themselves. Giving them chores had taught me that, if anything I wish I would have started it sooner with Adalynn.

Trips to the library! That I do make sure I do with my kiddos. The best part is every time we get home the girls spend hours reading and flipping through books. It’s another way for them to keep up and be ready for the next school year.

Well that’s it! It’s been about a month since schools been out. We are headed to see family in Texas and that will hopefully break up the summer break a bit and before I know it the girls will be in school again and it’ll just be Max and me during the day.

On the Go Baby Essentials

Hey there! Today I’ve narrowed it down to my top on the go baby essentials.

First things first, a great diaper bag! Though the traditional diaper bag has practicality they aren’t always the most stylish and they always scream diaper bag as you tote them around. I recently received the Grant Bag from R. Riveter. Even though it isn’t officially a diaper bag that’s what I’m using it for and I love it! It’s big enough for everything you need and then some with pockets on the inside that are perfect for the mom stuff like my chapstick and lipstick that get thrown in there, hand lotion, wallet, small kid toys etc etc… The convenient pockets on the outside are where I slip my phone and keys. Since it’s not a diaper bag it doesn’t look like one so when I can get to the grocery store by myself it doesn’t look like I’m caring a diaper bag with no baby, instead it’s a stylish tote!

Now for some of the products I put inside my Grant Bag.

Diapers and wipes are no duh definite must. An extra outfit is great to have on hand in case of a major blow out!

Max is a binkie baby so we bring it everywhere. Right now I’m digging the Wubbanub they weigh down the binkies a little bit so it’s harder for them to just pop out of his mouth and also they are big so hard to lose!

When I get ready to leave the house I like to make sure lil’ man is wearing a bandana bib! It makes him one stylish babe and it’s like a burp cloth attached to the baby! Just simply wipe away spit up with it. Super easy pease! These Copper Pearl are my go to!

I’ve been exclusively pumping so I always keep my manual breast pump with an extra empty bottle in my bag in case I’m out longer than expected and I either need to pump so babe can eat or I may have enough milk on hand but my boobs need a relief… you nursing mama’s feel me?!

Well that’s it! Those are my must haves! What are something’s you keep in your diaper bag?

Being a mom to three

What did I get myself into?!? I’ve been asking myself that a bunch lately now that it’s getting so close to babe number three’s arrival.

At the beginning it was like, this is going to be great I’m glad my girls will be in school full time, I’ll get so much one on one time with baby boy. Now, oh now it’s hitting me, when I have sleepless nights with baby I still have to get up and get the girls ready and to school on time while making baby happy with feedings. 😬 Though the girls are a bit older and can do a lot on their own they do come with their own hardships. Like Emily and her amazing fashion sense that I will no longer have the time or energy to fight her on when she’s dressed in layers looking ready for a ball in the artic on an 80 degree day.

Also did I mention my husband is doing a job right now that requires him to be at work 7 days a week from 4am till usually way pass bedtime for the kids and me.

Those days of him getting up and keeping me company while I nurse every couple hours at night sailed away 7 years ago with our first girl.

He wasn’t there for the newborn stage of our second, Emily but it was still different because big sis was only 2 and still took naps and if there were rough nights we just stayed in jammies all day and rested. That will not be an option most days this time around.

Let’s not forget to mention how to adjust to caring for a newborn again! It’s been years!!! My husband is a very confident telling me it’s like riding a bike but me I feel like a new mom.

Did you ever have moments of “how am I going to pull this off?!?” Before adding another babe to the family?

Why aren’t my kids scared of me?

You know the saying “I’ll put the fear of God in you”? It was something said to you as a child when you were being punished?

Lately I’ve seen a lot of memes joking about how when we were kids you never saw kids acting up in public because the fear of God was in us and we didn’t dare piss mom off but they say parents don’t do that anymore we just let our kids act out…

Well I’m here to tell you I strive everyday to be the mom our moms were. Because yes, the things my kids do I’m always thinking to myself man “if I did that I’d get smacked or I knew not to act a certain way because my mom would have my butt”. Yes I look back and remember getting punished and yes sometime I remember it being a bit much or I was just miss understood and really should not have been in trouble BUT it didn’t ruin me. I’m not regretful or disappointed in my childhood I still loved my mom and she was who I wanted to love and cuddle with and I feel like I turned out ok and am a functioning adult contributing to society.

So when my children are acting out in public, asking for the same thing over and over annoying the crap out of me or talking back I’m like WTF?!? Why do they keep doing that? Why are they not scared mom is going to punish them?!? I want that fear of God in my children.
Do you feel that way? Do you fear that you aren’t hard enough on your little ones? I do. Maybe I’m alone in this but I want my girls to not expect so much and do things on their own. I want them to love me but also respect me. If that means they know better then to talk back, ask for things or throw fits in fear they will be punished then I’m totally ok with that.

The Middle Child

The middle child!

My little Emily D is super excited to be getting a baby brother, she tells any one who will listen all about it. Everyday I get asked if he’s coming out yet and that she’s going to give him a bunch of kisses.

I don’t know if it’s the age gap or personality or maybe a bit of both but when I was pregnant with Emily my oldest Adalynn was barely two when she was born and she never acknowledged I was pregnant. Once Emily was born it was just like meh, mom has a baby now. So to be getting this type of excitement this time around makes me that much more excited.

Little does Emily know this will put her in the middle child category. I don’t know if and how it will change her, she has been the baby for four years! Right now the only thing I predict is though these days she likes doing things on her own and likes to refer to herself as a big girl even though she still expects help with things like eating and she is quick to act helpless when it suits her, so that part may get worse when she’s feeling left out because of the baby.

I was told by a fellow mom that switching from one to two kids was actually harder than two to three because the first two start helping each other out more and playing well because they realize that all they’ve got is each other when mom is busy with baby. I’m fingers crossed that’s how it works out for me.

As a family we can’t be more thrilled to be adding a boy to the mix! With that, I’m not going to be intimidated by all those boy moms out there telling me dressing a boy isn’t as fun as a girl because girls just have cuter stuff! I believe that is entirely not true and I’m kinda over the hot pink tutus!

One thing I’m loving on lil ones are the Freshly Picked moccasins! They are super cute and I heard from friends they are made to last! I’ve received a pair for baby boy that are oh so cute and can’t wait to put on his little baby feet and I also got a super cute pair for Emily so she can rock out and match little bro. She’s been wearing them non stop since I received them and on a four year old they really are durable!

I’m super in love with these moccasins that I’m doing a giveaway on any pair of your choosing over on my Instagram! Also Freshly Picked is having a Black Tuesday sale on November 22 starting 10am MST that lasts 24 hrs and offers 25% off the entire site! This sale only comes around twice a year!!

Emily’s Here & Baby Boy’s Here

Can I get a HOORAH for back to school!

Let me start this post on a super positive note; I love being a mama and I love my girls with all my heart! They are my world!

Ok, so now that that’s over Let me be the first to tell you, I am one excited mama! School is back in session and both girls are in full time. It’s glorious! I’ve already said all the sappy stuff in the beginning so I’m not going to sugar coat it now. It’s going to be so nice to have the day to me! Yes, I’m a SAHM so you’re probably thinking “now what are you going to do with your time? Eat bonbons and watch
inappropriate TV all day?!?”

Honestly some days I just might, but for real I’ve made blogging my career and when summer break rolled around it was really hard for me to get any work done at home and that’s what bloggers do, work from home! Not to mention I really enjoy running and working out at home, but both are extremely hard to do. For starters, running when neither kid fits in a stroller anymore and they decide to ride their bikes for 5 minutes max before complaining they were hot and tired, or my 30 minute workout DVD turns into 60 minutes after pausing to yell at the girls multiple times to get along or telling them just a minute after they ask me for everything under the sun.

With all this time I’ll be able to get things done during the day like errands, house chores, blogging, working out and so on. I can now do it all while the girls are in school and not feel bad for not giving them attention and know they can get my full attention once they step off that bus from school.

Now I may eat my words after day in and day out of not having my girls around as often, but right now I’m so happy!! 🙂

Raising girls

Have you ever had a mother of boys tell you “if you had boys things would be so different”? Boys are rambunctious and like to do gross things like talk about poop and farts or maybe that boys are just like the energizer bunny. Well from my experience of being a girl only mom, girls before puberty are EXACTLY the same!!! Like seriously, I’m not missing out on the trips to the ER from bumps and bruises or eating coins for that matter. My youngest Emily D loves to run around the house singing the poo song (a song she made up) while completely naked not to mention everytime you get her undressed for a bath or just a change of clothes she turns around shows you her butt and makes fart sounds.

Yes, there is definitely a lot of pink, purple, tutus and sass in my life because of these girls of mine, but the crazy boy personality is not limited to boys only.

In my opinion the best things about being a girl only mama is really just being a girl myself so understanding their bodies during the potty training stage and how to style the hair, I’m sure things will change dramatically once those not so fun preteen years come but for now it seems that boys and girls all have their own unique personality that’s not defined by gender.

Just the two of us {featuring PinkBlush}

Today starts the first day of summer break for my oldest. It’s probably going to be break spend poolside, free and easy fun.

This last week I soaked up the last bit of time with just my lil’ Emily D, we had our own little play date at the park where we played tag and twirled around like ballerina’s. It’s bittersweet knowing she will be headed to school next year too. My girls are growing up so fast.

During our mom and me time I wore this beautiful periwinkle blue dress I received from Pink Blush, which is an amazing online woman’s fashion boutique. They are known for their beautiful maternity wear and also have great selection of  stylish clothes for the non pregnant mama’s out there.

I’m hosting a giveaway on Instagram! Enter and you could win a $50 PinkBlush gift card!
